Stuck Inside (Again)? Indulge In These At-Home Spa Essentials
Now that salons and spas are closing again, I’m using this time to focus on self-care at home.
Earlier this week, California spas, salons, gyms, and other businesses were closed (again) due to the coronavirus. After reopening my L.A. atelier in the beginning of July, I — like many other small business owners — had to shift gears and pack up shop just as I was getting back into my groove. I really feel for the people and businesses who are suffering, but part of me is happy about the second shutdown.
During the first shutdown, I finally had time to focus on myself. I realized that while I’m passionate about encouraging others to care for themselves, I had been neglecting my own self-care by burying myself in work. When I had to hit pause on my business because of the pandemic, I was able to continue my recovery journey and heal myself emotionally and spiritually in ways that I wasn’t allowing myself to do so before.
Translation: I remembered how to feed my soul and really sit with me, myself, and I.
I know we’re living in challenging times. That’s why I want to remind people to take this opportunity to maintain their holistic self-care routine and avoid pressuring yourself to be “productive.” Productivity can take the form of many things: Meditating, praying, cooking, family time, and even boredom, which can actually help boost our creativity.
I’ve found that quarantining has helped me reconnect with myself. One of my favorite ways to enjoy “me” time is by creating a spa experience — and it’s something I encourage everyone to do. It can be something as simple as taking a bath by candlelight or something as decadent as a 12-step facial with all of your favorite skincare tools and products. Find a wellness routine that speaks to you and create an atmosphere that inspires you to care for your mind, body, and soul.
You don’t have to buy the most expensive gear — but for those who are stuck at home and incorporating retail therapy into their self-care routine (no judgment!), I’ve rounded up a few of my favorite wellness products below.
